FURNITURE AND DECORATION PROGRAM

 ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Vision: It is to train technical staff who have developed themselves theoretically and practically, are qualified in their fields, can produce new ideas and make a difference.

Mission: We aim to meet the expectations of the age without compromising the understanding of quality and service, work in harmony with the changing and developing sectoral structure, transfer the latest up-to-date information to our students with gifted academic staff.

 Program Outcomes

  1. To be able to read technical and professional pictures, to gain manual computer aided drawing and design skills
  2. To have the ability to do basic operations in furniture manufacturing.
  3. To be able to perform operations related to design, modelling, simulation and production with CAD-CAM programs.
  4. Using CNC machines, creating programs and gaining the ability to manufacture and produce on CNC machines.
  5. To have the ability to know the material, to know the production methods of the materials, to distinguish the materials and to apply the materials.
  6. To know measuring, control tools and tools, to have the ability to use them, and to contribute to the manufacturing process in quality control units during and after the manufacturing process.
  7. To know the compressed air, hydraulic-pneumatic recognition, working principle required for machinery and equipment used in furniture manufacturing, to have the ability to perform periodic maintenance and repair.
  8. To be able to make and apply the necessary applications by anticipating the negativities that will occur on the material, taking into account the suitability of the products used as main, auxiliary and complementary in the design, production and manufacture of the furniture and decoration works, taking into account the environmental conditions.
  9. To be conscious of the importance of occupational health and safety in working life, to always comply with the rules related to occupational health and safety, to make risk analyses related to the workbench-system-unit, to know what to do in emergencies and first aid applications, and to have the ability to do so when necessary.
  10. To know the mass production methods, to use the machines used in mass production, to have the ability to design and make the apparatus and auxiliary elements, especially for mass production.
  11. To be able to fulfil the functions of business management, to direct the production process, to have the ability to calculate cost-income-expenses with simple mathematical operations.
  12. To be able to communicate with employees at all levels in the business and unit they work, to have professional and social ethical values ​​and the ability to make necessary researches using technological opportunities, to take part in teamwork and to take individual responsibilities when necessary.

History

The program was established in 2019 within the scope of Bingöl University Vocational School of Technical Sciences.

Degree Earned

Furniture and Decoration program students are entitled to receive an associate degree after successfully completing their courses and fulfilling other requirements. Graduates of this program receive the title of "Furniture and Decoration Technician".

Admission Requirements

Being a high school graduate and getting enough points in the Basic Proficiency Test conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Centre

Graduation Requirements

In order for a student to complete the program, a total of 120 ECTS compulsory and elective courses must be successfully completed and the GPA must be at least 60 out of 100. 30 working days industry-based internship is required in this program.

Career Paths

Graduates of the Furniture and Decoration program are employed as technical intermediate staff – technicians in the departments of R&D, P&D, Design, Manufacturing and Marketing, Finished Products, Semi-Products and Raw Materials in Furniture Manufacturing and Production companies.

It is aimed to train technical staff who can design and manufacture furniture, interior space design and can recognize woodworking machines used in furniture industry, materials and accessories used in furniture making.

It is aimed to train technical staff who have the knowledge and skills to follow the developments and innovations in the field of furniture and decoration.

What Do Furniture and Decoration Graduates Do? 

Graduates examine the design or production project prepared by the industrial products designer.  They determine the qualities and numbers of the staff to work in production, draw the project of the item to be made or examine if the project is ready. They make the necessary changes, prepare the necessary material list for production, prepare the cost calculations and order the necessary materials. They ensure that the materials are ready for use, mark the shape of the parts on the wood material. They cut the wood material and join the parts in accordance with the project. They smoothen and polish wood material. They install accessories on them. They make the maintenance and repairs of the machines.

Where Do Furniture and Decoration Alumni Work?

  • In factories producing industrial furniture,
  • In all industry organizations working with trees,
  • In the construction industry
  • They can work in private businesses at SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) level.
  • They can work as technicians in the production of wood preservatives, adhesives, varnishes and paints and their subordinate industries.
  • There are also opportunities to open their own businesses.
